2. What you are buying
The UK Author Legal Pack is a downloadable set of document templates and explanatory notes for self-publishing authors in the United Kingdom, supplied as Word (.docx), PDF and Markdown files.
It is not legal advice, and no solicitor has reviewed it. It was written and researched by the publishing.co.uk team — publishing professionals, not qualified lawyers — working from the primary legislation, which is cited throughout so you can check it. Buying it does not create a solicitor–client relationship. We have not reviewed your circumstances and cannot.
The pack is written for the law of England and Wales. If you are in Scotland or Northern Ireland, or the other party to a contract is outside the UK, have the contracts checked locally before relying on them.
3. Price and payment
The price is shown on the product page and includes VAT where it applies. Payment is taken by Lemon Squeezy, our payment and merchant-of-record provider. We do not see or store your card details.
4. Delivery
The files are delivered immediately after payment, by download link and by email to the address you give at checkout. If nothing arrives within an hour, check your spam folder and then email hello@publishing.co.uk and we will send them by hand.
5. Your right to cancel, and how it works with an instant download
You normally have 14 days to cancel a contract for digital content bought online and get a full refund, without giving a reason.
Because this product is delivered immediately, that right ends as soon as the download begins — but only if you have, at checkout, both given express consent to immediate supply and acknowledged that you are giving up the right to cancel. We ask for both separately, and we confirm them in your order email.
If you would rather keep the 14-day right, do not tick the box. Email hello@publishing.co.uk and we will send the files on the fifteenth day.
Full terms, and the model cancellation form, are in the Refund and cancellation policy.
6. Our refund promise, which is wider than the law requires
If the pack is not what you expected, email hello@publishing.co.uk within 14 days of purchase and we will refund you in full — whether or not you have downloaded the files, and whether or not you ticked the box in clause 5. Tell us briefly what was wrong; we will not argue with you about it, and the answer helps us fix the pack.
This is a promise we choose to give, and it sits on top of your statutory rights rather than replacing them. We may decline it where the same person has bought and refunded before.
7. What you may do with the files
See the licence. In short: use them as much as you like in your own publishing, including commercially. Do not resell them, give them away, or supply them to clients as part of a service you charge for.
8. Technical requirements
The .docx files open in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Apple Pages. The PDFs open in any PDF reader. The Markdown files open in any text editor. No account, licence key or internet connection is needed after download. There is no digital rights management on any file.
9. Your legal rights about quality
Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for any purpose you made known to us before buying, and as described. Nothing in these terms limits those rights. If the content does not meet that standard you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund under that Act, in addition to our promise in clause 6.
10. Updates
We may issue a corrected or updated edition. Buyers of the current edition get updates to that edition free, sent to the email address used at purchase, for 12 months. We are not obliged to keep the pack current after that, and the law changes — each file carries the date its statutory claims were checked.
11. Our liability
We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded — including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Subject to that, and because this is a set of templates rather than advice on your situation, our total liability in connection with the pack is limited to the amount you paid for it. We are not liable for business losses; the pack is supplied for use by individual authors.
12. Complaints and disputes
Email hello@publishing.co.uk first — most things are fixed the same week. If we cannot resolve it, you may bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings in your own courts.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, except that if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you have the benefit of the mandatory consumer protections of the law where you live.
13. Your data
