Short answer: go to kdp.amazon.com, click Sign in, and use the email address or mobile number of the Amazon account you publish under. UK authors use the same site: typing kdp.amazon.co.uk takes you straight to kdp.amazon.com. There is no separate KDP password; it is your Amazon login.

The eight sign-in problems, and the fix for each

Amazon also points out that the email must be a full address in the form name@domain.com, so a typo in the domain is worth checking before anything else.
How to reset your KDP password
- Go to kdp.amazon.com and click Sign in.
- Click Need help?, then Forgot your password?
- Enter the email address or mobile number on the account.
- Type in the one-time code Amazon sends you.
- Confirm the account details, then choose a new password.
Because KDP and Amazon share one login, the new password works for Amazon shopping too.
Two-step verification: when KDP asks for a code
You don’t need two-step verification just to sign in. Amazon says it is only required when you open the Your Account page in KDP, which holds your tax and bank details, and it can’t be switched off for that page.
To set it up: go to Login & security in your Amazon account, click Edit beside Two-Step Verification Settings, then Get Started. The code can come by text message, voice call or an authenticator app. Add a backup: Amazon lets you register up to two phone numbers or an authenticator app, which is what saves you when you change phones.
Setting up a KDP account for the first time
You can use an Amazon account you already have. Go to kdp.amazon.com, sign in, and KDP asks for three things before you can publish:
- Account details: your legal name, whether you’re an individual or a company, and your address.
- Bank details: where royalties are paid. The account holder’s name has to match the bank account.
- Tax information: Amazon requires every publisher to complete a tax interview. UK authors fill in the form that applies to non-US publishers; our KDP tax interview guide for UK authors goes through it answer by answer.
Amazon may also ask you to verify your identity after you add your details.
One tip before you create anything: if you already buy on Amazon with one email, decide now whether your books live on that account or a separate one. An empty bookshelf later almost always means signing in with the other one.

What is the KDP login page?

Is my KDP login the same as my Amazon login?
Yes. KDP runs on Amazon’s account system, so you sign in with an Amazon account, and a problem with that account, such as a lock-out, also stops you getting into KDP.
Why is my KDP bookshelf empty after I log in?
You’ve almost certainly signed in with a different Amazon account from the one your books were published under. Sign out and sign back in with the email address linked to your KDP account.
